SMART supplies most interactive whiteboards for Enciclomedia project

51,027 SMART Board interactive whiteboards for fifth- and sixth-grade classrooms

MEXICO --- July 12, 2006 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces it has been chosen to supply over 34 percent of the interactive whiteboards for Mexico’s Enciclomedia project, making SMART the largest interactive whiteboard provider to the project. Final supply numbers include a recent order for 8,000 SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards. Product reliability was one of the key factors that led to the integrators’ preference for SMART Board interactive whiteboards. VideoNet, SMART’s distributor in Mexico, is providing the necessary support and training required for this widespread installation.

Enciclomedia is a project administered by the Secretariat of Public Education and is the largest education technology and digital content project anywhere in the world. Its aim is to enrich students’ classroom experience through the use of technology products and digital content, and to boost student engagement, participation and learning outcomes. Enciclomedia has equipped more than 145,000 fifth- and sixth-grade Mexican classrooms with technology products worth upwards of US$1.8 billion. Interactive whiteboards are being used to deliver curriculum-based, digital content also developed as part of this initiative.

“SMART is the global education market segment leader in interactive whiteboards,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “Being selected as the largest provider of interactive whiteboards for the groundbreaking Enciclomedia project has reaffirmed the advantages of SMART products in the classroom and made us the clear preference in yet another country.”
